「おそれながら、それは可能でございます。」「では、将軍よ、こう思いなさい――コーサラ国のパセーナディ王の支配の及ばぬところ、すなわち王が主権をもって統治していない土地においては、王はそこにいる沙門（しゃもん）や婆羅門（ばらもん）を、それが功徳（くどく）ある者であれ功徳なき者であれ、清浄行（せいじょうぎょう）を修める者であれ修めぬ者であれ、その場所から追放し、あるいは退去させることができるであろうか。」「おそれながら、それはできませぬ。」「では将軍よ、こう思いなさい――汝は三十三天（さんじゅうさんてん）の神々について聞いたことがあるか。」「はい、承知しております。コーサラ国のパセーナディ王陛下もまた、それを聞き知っておられます。」「では、将軍よ――」
