王は園林へと向かわれた。乗り物で行けるところまで進み、そこで車を降りて、徒歩にて園に入られた。園内を経行（きんひん）しながら歩みを進めておられると、王の目に映ったのは、清らかにして心を和ませ、静寂にして物音なく、人里離れて喧騒を遠く隔て、独坐瞑想（パティサッラーナ）にまことにふさわしい、樹下のさまざまな佇まいであった。それを御覧になるや、王の心には、ただちに世尊のことが想い起こされた。「これらの樹下こそ、清らかにして心を和ませ、静寂にして物音なく、人里離れて喧騒を遠く隔て、独坐瞑想にまことにふさわしい場所である。かつてわれらが世尊、応供（おうぐ）なる完成者に帰依し奉った、あの場所もまさにかくのごとくであった——」
