Atha kho rājā pasenadi kosalo uṭṭhāyāsanā bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā padakkhiṇaṁ katvā pakkāmi. Atha kho bhagavā acirapakkantassa rañño pasenadissa kosalassa bhikkhū āmantesi: “eso, bhikkhave, rājā pasenadi kosalo dhammacetiyāni bhāsitvā uṭṭhāyāsanā pakkanto. Uggaṇhatha, bhikkhave, dhammacetiyāni; pariyāpuṇātha, bhikkhave, dhammacetiyāni; dhāretha, bhikkhave, dhammacetiyāni. Atthasaṁhitāni, bhikkhave, dhammacetiyāni ādibrahmacariyakānī”ti. Then King Pasenadi got up from his seat, bowed, and respectfully circled the Buddha, keeping him on his right, before leaving. Soon after the king had left, the Buddha addressed the mendicants: “Mendicants, before he got up and left, King Pasenadi spoke shrines to the teaching. Learn these shrines to the teaching! Memorize these shrines to the teaching! Remember these shrines to the teaching! These shrines to the teaching are beneficial and relate to the fundamentals of the spiritual life.” That

そのときコーサラ国のパセーナディ王は座より立ち上がり、世尊（bhagavā）に礼拝して、右繞（うにょう）し、退出された。コーサラ国のパセーナディ王が退出してまもなく、世尊は比丘たちに告げられた。「比丘たちよ、コーサラ国のパセーナディ王は、座より立ち上がって退出する前に、法の記念碑（dhammacetiyāni）を説いた。比丘たちよ、この法の記念碑を学びなさい。比丘たちよ、この法の記念碑を受持しなさい。比丘たちよ、この法の記念碑を憶念しなさい。比丘たちよ、これらの法の記念碑は、利益をそなえ、清浄な梵行（ādibrahmacariya）の根本に関わるものである。」世尊はこのように説かれた。かの比丘たちは、世尊の御言葉を歓喜して受けたのである。
