So she told her husband about this. そこで彼女は夫にこのことを告げた。しかし夫はその女を真っ二つに斬り、みずからの腹を割いて、「二人は死後にともにあらん」と思い定めたのである。婆羅門（バラモン）よ、このことによっても知られるべきである――愛するものより生ずるがゆえに、愛するものは憂い（ソーカ）・悲しみ・苦（ドゥッカ）・憂悶・悩乱の源となると。」
さてナーリジャンガ婆羅門は、世尊の説かれたことを歓喜し随喜して、座より立ちあがり、マッリカー妃のもとへと赴いた。そして赴いて、世尊とかわした問答のすべてをマッリカー妃に告げ申した。
そこでマッリカー妃はパセーナディ王のもとへと近づき、こう申し上げた。「大王よ、いかにお思いになりますか――」
