And Venerable Aṅgulimāla became one of the perfected. Then Venerable Aṅgulimāla robed up in the morning and, taking his bowl and robe, entered Sāvatthī for alms. Now at that time someone threw a stone that hit Aṅgulimāla, someone else threw a stick, and someone else threw gravel. かくして、アングリマーラ尊者はもろもろの煩悩を滅し尽くした阿羅漢（アラハント）となられた。
やがてある朝、アングリマーラ尊者は衣をまとい、鉢と衣を携えて、托鉢のためにサーヴァッティーの城内へと入られた。
ところがそのとき、ある者が投げた石がアングリマーラ尊者の身体に当たり、また別の者が投げた棒が当たり、さらに別の者が投げた砂利が当たった。
かくしてアングリマーラ尊者は、頭を傷つけ、血を流し、鉢は割れ、外衣（サンガーティ）は引き裂かれたまま、世尊のみもとへと参られた。
世尊ははるか遠くよりアングリマーラ尊者の姿を御覧になり、こう仰せられた。
「堪え忍べ、婆羅門（バラモン）よ。堪え忍べ、婆羅門よ。汝はまさに今、長きにわたって積み重ねてきた業（カンマ）の果報を、この世において受けているのである。」
