‘Your Majesty, this man is a bandit, a criminal. Punish him as you will.’ What would you do to him?” “I would have him executed, fined, or banished, or dealt with as befits the crime. Why is that? Because he’s lost his former status as an aristocrat, and is just reckoned as a bandit.” “What do you think, great king? 「大王よ、この者は盗賊にして悪事を犯せる者にございます。御心のままに刑罰をお与えくださいませ」と。大王よ、あなたはその者をいかになさるでしょうか？」
「カッチャーナよ、余はその者を処刑するか、罰金を科すか、追放するか、あるいはその罪に相応しき処置を施すであろう。それはなぜか。カッチャーナよ、その者はかつて『刹帝利（クシャトリヤ）』と称せられし身分をすでに失い、もはや盗賊として数えられるに過ぎないからである」
「大王よ、それについてどのようにお考えになりますか。大王よ、それについてどのようにお考えになりますか。」
「カッチャーナよ、余はその者に合掌して礼拝し、あるいは起立してこれを迎え、あるいは座をすすめて請じ、さらには衣（チーヴァラ）・食（ピンダパータ）・臥坐具（センアーサナ）・病者のための医薬資具（ギラーナッパッチャヤベーサッジャ）をもって供養し、心よりもてなし申し上げるであろう。」
