こう問われて、彼は「いいえ」と答えるでしょう。すると人々は彼にこう言うでしょう。「おい、そなた、かつて知ったことも見たこともない者を、そなたは求め、欲しているというのか」と。こう問われて、彼は「そうです」と答えるでしょう。カッチャーナよ、そなたはどう思いますか。このような次第であれば、その人の言葉は、よるべき根拠を持たぬものとなりはしないでしょうか」
「まことに、ゴータマ尊者よ、そのような次第であれば、その人の言葉は根拠なきものとなりましょう」
「それとまったく同じように、カッチャーナよ、そなたは『ゴータマ尊者よ、その光輝（vaṇṇa）よりも優れ、あるいはより勝れたる光輝は他にない、それこそが最上の光輝（paramo vaṇṇo）である』と言う。しかるにそなたは、その光輝を何ら示すことができないでいるのです」
