「ウダーイよ、ここに比丘が、欲楽（kāma）をまったく離れ、不善の諸法を離れて、尋（vitakka）と伺（vicāra）とをともない、離より生じた喜（pīti）と楽（sukha）とある初禅（paṭhama-jhāna）を具足して住する。さらに尋と伺との静息により、第二禅（dutiya-jhāna）を具足して住する。さらに喜の離貪により、第三禅（tatiya-jhāna）を具足して住する。ウダーイよ、これこそまさしく、完全な幸福の世界（ekantasukha-loka）を実証するための、道理にかなった実践（ākāravatī paṭipadā）である。」
