But skillful behaviors stem from a mind that is free from greed, hate, and delusion. And what are unskillful thoughts? unskillful thoughts stem from this. しかし、貪り（ラーガ）と瞋恚（ドーサ）と迷妄（モーハ）を離れた心より、善き戒（クサラ・シーラ）は生じるのである。
では、建築師よ、不善なる思惟（アクサラ・サンカッパ）とは何か。不善なる思惟もまた、この〔心〕より生ずる。そして、建築師よ、これらの不善なる思惟は、いかなるところにて余すところなく滅するのか。その滅もまた、すでに説かれている。
すなわち、建築師よ、ここに比丘あり、まさしく諸々の欲楽（カーマ）より離れ、不善なる諸法より離れて……初禅（パタマ・ジャーナ）に入り、そこに住するのである。この初禅とは、独処（ヴィヴェーカ）より生ずる喜悦（ピーティ）と楽（スカ）を具え、思惟（ヴィタッカ）を置き、思惟を持続するものである。ここにおいて、かの不善なる思惟は余すところなく滅する。
では、建築師よ、いかに修行する者が、不善なる思惟の滅尽のために修行している者といわれるのか。建築師よ、ここに比丘あり、いまだ生じていない悪しき不善の諸法に対して……
