「私はこれを知っております。どうぞ私にお尋ねください。私がお答えいたしましょう」と言うのです。かつてこのようなことがございました。プーラナ・カッサパ（Pūraṇa Kassapa）は、両腕を高く上げて叫びながらも、思うようにはいかなかったのです。「皆さん、静かにしてください。どうか声を立てないでください。彼らはあなたがたに尋ねているのではありません。私に尋ねているのです。私がお答えいたしましょう」と。
尊師よ、数日前のことでございます。様々な外道（tīrthiya）の沙門（samaṇa）・婆羅門（brāhmaṇa）たちが、論議堂（kutūhalasālā）に集い座しておりましたところ、彼らの間にこのような話題が起こりました。
「まことに、プーラナ・カッサパの弟子たちの多くは、その教説（dhamma）を論破したうえで彼のもとを去って行った。『あなたはこの法（dhamma）を……』」と。
