‘This beryl gem is naturally lustrous, eight-faceted, well-worked, transparent and clear, endowed with all good qualities. 「この瑠璃（るり）の宝珠は、生まれながらにして光輝き、八面に整えられ、よく磨き上げられ、透き通って清らかであり、あらゆる優れた特質を具えている。そしてそれは、青き糸、あるいは黄なる糸、赤き糸、白き糸、あるいは淡褐色の糸をもって貫かれている」と。
まさにそのように、わたしは弟子たちに修道（パṭipadā）を説き示した。その修道にしたがって実践する弟子たちは、かくのごとく了知するのである。
さて、世尊（ブhagavā）は、午前に衣を整え、鉢と衣を持して、ラージャガハ（王舎城）へと托鉢のために入られた。そのとき、世尊にこのような思いが起こった。
「ラージャガハにおいて托鉢して歩くには、いまだ時刻が早すぎる。ここはひとつ、遊行者（パリッバージャカ）サクルダーイン（Sakuludāyī）の住む孔雀の園（モーラニヴァーパ）へと赴くとしようか」と。
