中部経典（MN76 §31.4–35-42.2）
“I don’t say it’s like this. I don’t say it’s like that. I don’t say it’s otherwise. I don’t say it’s not so. 「それはこのようであるとも言わない。またそのようであるとも言わない。それ以外であるとも言わない。そうでないとも言わない。またそうでないことを否定するとも言わない」と。かくのごとく、この梵行（ぼんぎょう）は頼りにならぬものであると知って、その梵行に嫌気がさし、立ち去るのである。
サンダカよ、これこそが、知り見たもう方、阿羅漢（あらかん）にして正しく覚れる者、かの世尊によって説かれた、第四の頼りにならない梵行である。志ある智者は、よく力を尽くしてもこの梵行を修するべきではなく、またたとえ修したとしても、善なる正法（しょうほう）を成就することはできないのである。
サンダカよ、これらがすなわち、知り見たもう方、阿羅漢にして正しく覚れる者、かの世尊によって説かれた、四つの頼りにならない梵行（アナッサーシカ・ブラフマチャリヤ）なのである。
