‘Kiṁ panimassāyasmato āraññikassa ekassāraññe serivihārena yo ayamāyasmā muṭṭhassatī’ti— Tasmā āraññikena bhikkhunā upaṭṭhitassatinā bhavitabbaṁ. Āraññikenāvuso, bhikkhunā samāhitena bhavitabbaṁ. 「かの尊者は森に独り住み、自らの意のままに暮らしながら、念（サティ）を欠いているとは、いったい何のための林住（あらんにゅうじゅ）であろうか」と、そのように言う者が現れるであろう。それゆえに、林住の比丘は、つねに念を確立していなければならない。林住の比丘は、定（サマーディ）を具えていなければならない。友よ、もし林住の比丘が定を欠くならば、こう言う者が現れるであろう——「かの尊者は森に独り住み、自らの意のままに暮らしながら、定を具えていないとは、いったい何のための林住であろうか」と。それゆえに、林住の比丘は、定を具えていなければならない。林住の比丘は、慧（パンニャー）を具えていなければならない。友よ、もし林住の比丘が慧に乏しいならば、こう言う者が現れるであろう——「かの尊者は森に独り住み、自らの意のままに暮らしながら、慧を欠いているとは、いったい何のための林住であろうか」と。
