「それならば、あの方々にお尋ねしてみようではないか」と。
そこで世尊（Bhagavā）はアヌルッダ尊者に告げられた。
「アヌルッダたちよ、汝らは梵行（brahmacariya）に喜びを見出しているであろうか」
「まことに、師よ、わたしどもは梵行に喜びを見出しております」
「よきかな、よきかな、アヌルッダたちよ。汝らのごとき善家の子（kulaputta）が、信心をもって在家の生活を捨て、家なき出家（anagāriya）の道に入ったならば、梵行に喜びを見出すことこそ、まことにふさわしいことである。汝らはいま、恵まれた若さを具え、人生の盛りにあり、漆黒の髪もなお美しく輝いている。その恵まれた若き身をもって欲楽（kāma）をほしいままにすることもできたであろうに、汝らはその恵まれた若さをもってなお……」
