Because that’s how it is when someone doesn’t fulfill the training according to the Teacher’s instructions. But take a mendicant who does fulfill the training according to the Teacher’s instructions. これはまさに、師の教えにおける修行（sikkhā）を完全に実践しない者の在り方である。
されど、バッダーリよ、ここに師の教えにおける修行を完全に実践する比丘（bhikkhu）がいるとしよう。かれはかく思う。「いざ、わたしは辺遠なる住処（vivittaṁ senāsanaṁ）を求めよう——荒野、樹下、山丘、峡谷、山の岩窟、墓林、森の奥、露地、藁の積み処を。願わくば、わたしは人間を超えた境地（uttari manussadhammā）、すなわち聖者（ariya）に相応しき知見（ñāṇadassana）の殊勝なる証悟を、みずから現証することができようと。」
かくしてかれは辺遠なる住処を求め——荒野、樹下、山丘、峡谷、山の岩窟、墓林、森の奥、露地、藁の積み処を——実に求めてやまないのである。
