「では、わたくしが参りまして、沙門ゴータマのこの論点について論破してまいりましょう。」「よし、居士よ、汝が沙門ゴータマのこの論点について論駁せよ。それはわたくしがなすべきことでもあり、あるいはディーガタパッシー（Dīgha Tapassī）なる尼乾子（にがんし）がなすべきことでもあり、また汝がなすべきことでもある。」「善いかな、善いかな（sādhu sādhu）、尊者ディーガタパッシーよ。まことに博聞ある弟子として、師の教えを正しく体得せる者にふさわしく、尊者タパッシーは沙門ゴータマに答えられた。そもそも、この粗大なる身罰（kāyadaṇḍa）に比して、取るに足らぬ意罰（manodaṇḍa）がいかほどのものであろうか。むしろ身罰こそが最も咎めらるべきもの——」
