“Well then, my good gatekeeper, go to the Jain Ñātika and say to him: ‘Sir, Upāli says you may enter if you wish.’” “Yes, sir,” replied the gatekeeper. He went to the Jain Ñātika and relayed what was said. Then the Jain Ñātika went to the hall of the middle gate together with a large following of Jain ascetics. 「さあ、門番よ、ニガンタ・ナータプッタのもとへ参り、こう伝えよ。『ウパーリ長者がこのように申しております――もしご入室をお望みであれば、どうぞお入りくださいとのことでございます』と」
「かしこまりました」と門番はウパーリ長者の言葉を承り、ニガンタ・ナータプッタのもとへ赴いて、そのように伝えた。
そこでニガンタ・ナータプッタは、多くのニガンタ（離縛者）の衆とともに、中門の広間へと進まれた。
さて以前のウパーリは、ニガンタ・ナータプッタが遠くよりお越しになるのを見かけると、出迎えに参り、上衣をもって最も高く最も優れた座を拭い清め、師を抱きかかえるようにしてその座にお坐りいただいたものであった。
