“Jīvaka, anyone who slaughters a living creature specially for the Realized One or the Realized One’s disciple brims with much wickedness for five reasons. When they say: ‘Go, fetch that living creature,’ this is the first reason. When that living creature experiences pain and sadness as it’s led along by a collar, this is the second reason. 「ジーヴァカよ、如来（タターガタ）もしくは如来の弟子を目当てとして生き物を屠る者は、五つの理由によって多大な罪業（アプンニャ）を積むことになる。
まず、『行って、かの生き物を連れてまいれ』と命ずる、その言葉によって、多大な罪業を積む。これが第一の理由である。
次に、その生き物が首縄に引かれて連れて行かれる際に、苦（ドゥッカ）と憂い（ドーマナッサ）を経験する、そのことによって、多大な罪業を積む。これが第二の理由である。
さらに、『行って、その生き物を屠れ』と命ずる、その言葉によって、多大な罪業を積む。これが第三の理由である。
そして、その生き物が屠られる際に、苦と憂いを経験する、そのことによって、多大な罪業を積む。」
