中部経典（MN53 §25.1–26.3）
This noble disciple is said to be ‘accomplished in knowledge’, and also ‘accomplished in conduct’, and also ‘accomplished in knowledge and conduct’. And the divinity Sanaṅkumāra also spoke this verse: ‘The aristocrat is best among people who take clan as the standard. この聖なる弟子は「明智を具足せる者（ヴィッジャーサンパンナ）」とも呼ばれ、また「行いを具足せる者（チャラナサンパンナ）」とも呼ばれ、また「明智と行いを具足せる者（ヴィッジャーチャラナサンパンナ）」とも呼ばれるのである。
マハーナーマよ、かつてサナンクマーラ梵天（ブラフマー）もまた、次の偈（げ）を説かれた。
「家柄を誇りとする人々の中にあっては、刹帝利（クシャトリヤ）こそ最も優れたる者。されど明智と行いを具足せる者は、神々と人間との中にあって最も優れたる者なり。」
この偈は、サナンクマーラ梵天によって善く詠まれたものであり、拙く詠まれたものではない。善く説かれたものであり、拙く説かれたものではない。真の利益をそなえたものであり、無益なるものではない。そして世尊（ブッダ）によって認められたものである。
