‘Is there anything that I’m overcome with internally and haven’t given up, because of which I might not accurately know and see?’ If a mendicant is overcome with sensual desire, it’s their mind that’s overcome. 「私の内にいまだ捨てられていない何らかの覆い（パリユッターナ）があって、それによって心が覆われ、ありのままに知ることも見ることもできないでいる、ということはないだろうか」と。
比丘たちよ、もし比丘が欲貪（カーマラーガ）に覆われているならば、その心もまた覆われているのである。もし比丘が瞋恚（ビャーパーダ）に覆われているならば、その心もまた覆われているのである。もし比丘が惛沈・睡眠（ティナミッダ）に覆われているならば、その心もまた覆われているのである。もし比丘が掉挙・悪作（ウッダッチャ・クックッチャ）に覆われているならば、その心もまた覆われているのである。もし比丘が疑（ヴィチキッチャー）に覆われているならば、その心もまた覆われているのである。
さらにまた、聖なる弟子はこのように省察する。「この見解（ディッティ）を修し、習熟し、多く修習するならば、自らのうちに静寂（サマタ）と寂滅（ニッバーナ）とを得ることができるであろうか」と。かくして彼は了知するのである。
