And how is principled and moral conduct threefold by way of body? It’s when a certain person gives up killing living creatures. They renounce the rod and the sword. They’re scrupulous and kind, living full of sympathy for all living beings. They give up stealing. では、身体による正しい行いと清浄な行いは、いかにして三種となるのか。
ここに、ある人は生き物を殺すこと（殺生、pāṇātipāta）を捨て、殺生を離れる。杖を捨て、刀を捨て、慚愧あり慈悲あって、すべての生き物の利益を憐れみつつ住する。
与えられないものを取ること（不与取、adinnādāna）を捨て、不与取を離れる。村にあると野にあるとを問わず、他人の財物・所有物を、盗みの意図をもって取ることなし。
邪淫（kāmesumicchācāra）を捨て、邪淫を離れる。母によって護られ、父によって護られ、父母によって護られ、兄によって護られ、姉によって護られたる女性たち——
かくして、在家の方々（gahapatayo）よ、身体による行いの正しく清浄なることは、この三種をなすのである。
