They gain faith in the Realized One and reflect, ‘Life at home is cramped and dirty, life gone forth is wide open. It’s not easy for someone living at home to lead the spiritual life utterly full and pure, like a polished shell. 彼は如来（にょらい）に対して信（サッダー）を得、その信を具えて、次のように思惟する。
「在家の生活は煩わしく塵にまみれたものである。出家の生活は広々と開かれている。在家にとどまりながら、磨かれた貝殻のごとく、ことごとく円満にして清浄なる梵行（ぼんぎょう）を修めることは、容易ではない。いざ、髭と髪を剃り落とし、袈裟（けさ）の衣をまとい、家より出でて家なき者となって出家（パッバジャー）せんか」と。
彼はやがて、少なきにせよ多きにせよ財産の蓄えを捨て、少なきにせよ多きにせよ親族の絆を捨て、髭と髪を剃り落とし、袈裟の衣をまとい、在家の生活を離れて出家の道へと歩み出るのである。
