「このような神通力（iddhi）と威神力（ānubhāva）をそなえた修行の友（梵行者）をもつとは、まことにその方こそ、世尊（Bhagavā）、汝の師に違いない」と。
そこで尊者マハーモッガッラーナは、世尊のおられるところへと赴いた。赴いて、世尊を礼拝し、かたわらに坐した。かたわらに坐した尊者マハーモッガッラーナは、世尊にこのように申し上げた。
「世尊よ、まさにこのようにして、わたくしは神々の王サッカ（帝釈天）に対し、渇愛（taṇhā）の滅尽による解脱（saṅkhayavimutti）を、簡略に説き示したと憶念（abhijānāmi）いたします」と。
これを世尊は説かれた。尊者マハーモッガッラーナは歓喜し、世尊の御言葉を喜び受けた。
「世尊よ、世尊は、かの名高き者に対して、渇愛の滅尽による解脱を簡略に説き示されたことを、憶念されておられますか」
