I set out to discover what is skillful, seeking the supreme state of sublime peace. I approached Uddaka son of Rāma and said to him, Surely he meditated knowing and seeing this teaching.’ So I approached Uddaka son of Rāma and said to him, ‘Reverend, to what extent did Rāma say he’d realized this teaching with his own insight?’ When I said this, Uddaka son of Rāma declared the dimension of neither perception nor non-perception. 私は善なるものを求め、無上の寂静なる境地（サンティヴァラパダ）を探し求めながら、ウッダカ・ラーマプッタのもとへと赴いた。そして彼に告げた。「ラーマは実にこの法（ダンマ）を知り、見ながら住していたのであろう」と。
かくして私はウッダカ・ラーマプッタのもとへ近づき、こう問うた。「友よ、ラーマはいかなる境地まで、この法を自ら直接知り（abhiññā）、証得して（sacchikatvā）住していたと説いておられたのですか」と。
アッギヴェッサナよ、このように問われたとき、ウッダカ・ラーマプッタは非想非非想処（ネーヴァサンニャーナーサンニャーヤタナ）を説き示した。
そのとき私にこのような思いが生じた。「信（サッダー）あり、精進（ヴィリヤ）あり……を具えていたのは、ひとりラーマのみではない」と。
