That’s how a mendicant doesn’t show extra respect to senior mendicants of long standing, long gone forth, fathers and leaders of the Saṅgha. このように、比丘たちよ、長老にして久しく修行を積み、出家して日の長い、僧伽（サンガ）の父として、僧伽を導く者たちに対して、格別の敬意を表さない比丘は、この法と律において成長し、増大し、円熟に達することができない。
比丘たちよ、十一の法（ダンマ）を具えた比丘は、この教えと律において、成長・増大・円熟に到達することあたわず。
比丘たちよ、十一の要素を具えた牧牛者は、よく牛の群れを養い育てることができる。いかなる十一であるか。比丘たちよ、ここに牧牛者があって、色形（かたち）を知り、相（そう）に巧みであり、虻の卵を取り除き、傷を覆い癒し、煙を焚き、渡し場を知り、満足を知り……
