Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu vivicceva kāmehi vivicca akusalehi dhammehi savitakkaṁ savicāraṁ vivekajaṁ pītisukhaṁ paṭhamaṁ jhānaṁ upasampajja viharati. Ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, bhikkhu andhamakāsi māraṁ, apadaṁ vadhitvā māracakkhuṁ adassanaṁ gato pāpimato. Puna caparaṁ, bhikkhave, bhikkhu vitakkavicārānaṁ vūpasamā ajjhattaṁ sampasādanaṁ cetaso ekodibhāvaṁ avitakkaṁ avicāraṁ samādhijaṁ pītisukhaṁ dutiyaṁ jhānaṁ upasampajja viharati. It’s when a mendicant, quite secluded from sensual pleasures, secluded from unskillful qualities, enters and remains in the first absorption, which has the rapture and bliss born of seclusion, while placing the mind and keeping it connected. This is called a mendicant who has blinded Māra, put out his eyes without a trace, and gone where the Wicked One cannot see. Furthermore, as the placing of the mind and keeping it connected are stilled, a mendicant enters and remains in the second absorption
比丘が、欲楽を離れ、不善法を離れ、尋と伺を有し、離より生じた喜と楽とを有する初禅に入り、住するとき——これこそ、比丘が魔羅を盲目ならしめ、その眼を余すところなく滅し、悪魔の見及ばぬ境地へと至ったと謂われるのである。さらに、尋と伺が寂静に帰するに従い、比丘は内なる清浄を得、心の一境性を得て、尋なく伺なく、定より生じた喜と楽とを有する第二禅に入り、住する。
