“Mendicants, as long as the moon and the sun don’t arise in the world, no great light or great radiance appears. Darkness prevails then, utter darkness. Day and night aren’t found, nor months and fortnights, nor seasons and years. But when the moon and the sun arise in the world, a great light, a great radiance appears. Darkness no longer prevails. 比丘たちよ、月と太陽がこの世に現れない限り、大いなる光も大いなる輝きも現れることなく、暗闇が支配し、深き闇のみが広がる。昼と夜も知られず、月や半月も、季節も年も見出されることはない。しかるに、月と太陽がこの世に現れるとき、大いなる光、大いなる輝きが現れ、もはや闇は支配せず、昼と夜が知られ、月と半月が、季節と年が見出される。同じように、如来がこの世に現れない限り……
