Ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā vajjīsu viharati koṭigāme. Tatra kho bhagavā bhikkhū āmantesi: “catunnaṁ, bhikkhave, ariyasaccānaṁ ananubodhā appaṭivedhā evamidaṁ dīghamaddhānaṁ sandhāvitaṁ saṁsaritaṁ mamañceva tumhākañca. Katamesaṁ catunnaṁ? At one time the Buddha was staying in the land of the Vajjis at the village of Koṭi.
