“Mendicants, these four footprints of the gods are in order to purify unpurified beings and cleanse unclean beings. What four? This is the first footprint of the gods in order to purify unpurified beings and cleanse unclean beings. Firstly, a noble disciple has experiential confidence in the Buddha: ‘That Blessed One is perfected, a fully awakened Buddha, accomplished in knowledge and conduct, holy, knower of the world, supreme guide for those fit for training, teacher of gods and humans, awaken
比丘たちよ、これら四つの神々の足跡は、いまだ清められざる衆生を清め、いまだ浄められざる衆生を浄化するためのものである。その四つとは何か。
これが、いまだ清められざる衆生を清め、いまだ浄められざる衆生を浄化するための、神々の第一の足跡である。まず、聖なる弟子は仏陀に対して体験に基づく浄信を有する。「かの世尊は、阿羅漢にして、正等覚者にして、明行足にして、善逝にして、世間解にして、無上士・調御丈夫にして、天人師にして、仏陀にして、世尊である」と。
