At Kapilavatthu. Sarakāni was too weak for the training; he used to drink liquor.” Now at that time Sarakāni the Sakyan had passed away. The Buddha declared that he was a stream-enterer, not liable to be reborn in the underworld, destined for awakening. At that, several Sakyans came together complaining, grumbling, and objecting, “Oh lord, how incredible, how amazing! Who can’t become a stream-enterer these days? For the Buddha even declared Sarakāni to be a stream-enterer after he passed away.
カピラヴァットゥにて。サーラカーニは修行に堪えぬほど弱く、常に酒を飲んでおりました。」その頃、釈迦族のサーラカーニが世を去りました。世尊は彼が預流者であり、悪趣に堕することなく、必ずや覚りへと至る者であると宣言されました。これを聞いた釈迦族の者たちは、ひとところに集まり、不満を述べ、つぶやき、異を唱えました。「これはなんとも信じ難く、驚くべきことではないか。今の世において、預流果を得られぬ者などおろうか。世尊はかのサーラカーニが世を去りし後に、彼を預流者と宣言されたのだ。
