At Kapilavatthu. Then Mahānāma the Sakyan went up to Godhā the Sakyan, and said to him, “Godhā, how many things must a individual have for you to recognize them as a stream-enterer, not liable to be reborn in the underworld, destined for awakening?” “Mahānāma, an individual must have three things for me to recognize them as a stream-enterer. What three? It’s when a noble disciple has experiential confidence in the Buddha … the teaching … and the Saṅgha … When an individual has these three things
カピラヴァットゥにて。
そのとき、釈迦族のマハーナーマは、釈迦族のゴーダーのもとへ赴き、こう問いかけた。「ゴーダーよ、あなたはいかなる条件を備えた者を、預流者――悪趣に堕することなく、必ずや覚りへと向かう者――と認めるのでありましょうか」
ゴーダーは答えた。「マハーナーマよ、私は三つの条件を具えた者を預流者と認めます。その三つとは何か。それは、聖なる弟子が仏陀に対して体験に根ざした清信を有すること……法に対して体験に根ざした清信を有すること……そして僧伽に対して体験に根ざした清信を有すること……これらの三つの条件を備えた者を、私は預流者と認めるのです」
