So I have heard. or person. At that time I lose mindfulness regarding the Buddha, the teaching, and the Saṅgha. I think: ‘If I were to die at this time, where would I be reborn in my next life?’” At one time the Buddha was staying in the land of the Sakyans, near Kapilavatthu in the Banyan Tree Monastery. 如是我聞。あるとき、世尊はサッカ族の地、カピラヴァットゥのニグローダ僧院に滞在しておられた。そこへサッカ族のマハーナーマが世尊のもとへ参り、礼拝して一方に座し、こう申し上げた。「世尊よ、このカピラヴァットゥは繁栄し富み栄え、人口多く、人々で溢れ、袋小路も狭く混み合っております。私はある時、仏・法・僧に関して正念を失うことがございます。そのとき私は思うのです。『もし今この時、私が命を終えるならば、次の生においていかなる境涯に生まれるであろうか』と。」
