At one time the venerables Ānanda and Sāriputta were staying near Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s monastery. Then in the late afternoon, Venerable Sāriputta came out of retreat, went to Venerable Ānanda, and exchanged greetings with him. あるとき、尊者アーナンダと尊者サーリプッタは、サーヴァッティーの近く、ジェータ林のアナータピンディカの僧園に滞在されていた。やがて夕暮れ時、尊者サーリプッタは禅定より出でて尊者アーナンダのもとへと赴き、互いに挨拶を交わされた。挨拶と和やかな語らいが終わると、傍らに座して、こう申された。「尊者よ、世尊が或る人を預流者と宣言されるためには、その人はいくつのものを捨て去り、いくつのものを具え持たねばならないのでしょうか。
