At one time the Buddha was staying near Sāvatthī in the Royal Monastery. Then a Saṅgha of a thousand nuns went up to the Buddha, bowed, and stood to one side. あるとき、世尊はサーヴァッティーの王立精舎に滞在しておられた。そのとき、千人の比丘尼の僧伽が世尊のもとに参じ、礼拝して傍らに立った。世尊は彼女たちに告げられた。「比丘尼たちよ、四つのことを具えた聖なる弟子は、預流者であり、悪趣に堕することなく、覚りへと定まっている。その四つとは何か。聖なる弟子が仏陀に対して体験的な浄信を有し……法に対して……僧伽に対して……そして聖者たちに愛でられ……三昧へと導く戒を具えているということである。
