At one time the venerables Anuruddha and Sāriputta were staying near Vesālī, in Ambapālī’s Mango Grove. あるとき、尊者アヌルッダと尊者サーリプッタは、ヴェーサーリーの近く、アンバパーリーの菴羅樹林に滞在しておられた。やがて日暮れ方、サーリプッタは禅定より出て、アヌルッダのもとへ赴き、こう申し上げた。「尊者アヌルッダよ、あなたの諸根はまことに澄み渡り、御顔の色つやは清らかに輝いております。漏尽にして梵行を完成し、なすべきことをすべてなし終え、重荷を下ろし、みずからの理想を成就し、有の結縛をことごとく断ち尽くした、解脱せる比丘は――」
