At one time the venerables Anuruddha, Sāriputta, and Mahāmoggallāna were staying near Sāketa, in the Thorny Wood. Then in the late afternoon, Sāriputta and Mahāmoggallāna came out of retreat, went to Anuruddha, and exchanged greetings with him. あるとき、尊者アヌルッダ、尊者サーリプッタ、尊者マハーモッガッラーナの三人は、サーケータ近郊の荊棘林に滞在しておられた。やがて日暮れ時、サーリプッタとマハーモッガッラーナは禅定より出て、アヌルッダのもとへと赴き、丁重な挨拶を交わされた。挨拶と礼儀にかなった言葉を交わし終えると、両者は傍らに座した。サーリプッタはアヌルッダに向かってこう申された。「尊者アヌルッダよ、修行中の比丘はいかなる法に入り、またいかなる法に住すべきでありましょうか。」「尊者サーリプッタよ、修行中の比丘はまさに……に入り、そに住すべきであります。」
