“Mendicants, of all the trees belonging to the gods of the thirty-three, the Shady Orchid Tree is said to be the best. In the same way, the faculty of wisdom is said to be the best of the qualities that lead to awakening in terms of becoming awakened.” In the same way, the faculty of wisdom is said to be the best of the qualities that lead to awakening in terms of becoming awakened. 比丘たちよ、三十三天に属するすべての樹木の中で、パーリジャータ樹（昼度樹）が最勝と称せられる。それと同じく、覚りへと導く諸法の中にあって、慧根は覚りを成就するにおいて最勝と称せられるのである。
では、覚りへと導く諸法とは何であるか。すなわち、信根・精進根・念根・定根・慧根、これらがそれである。
