「あらゆる香木の中で、赤栴檀が最勝なりと称せられる。それと同じく、覚りに至る諸の資質の中にあって、慧根こそが覚りを成就するうえで最勝なりと称せられるのである。」
されば、覚りに導く資質とは何か。信根・精進根・念根・定根・慧根――これらの五根こそが、菩提に資する資質に他ならない。
