遊行者ヴァッチャゴッタは、尊者マハーモッガッラーナのもとへ赴き、挨拶を交わした。挨拶と礼儀ある言葉が終わると、彼は傍らに座して、マハーモッガッラーナに問うた。「尊者モッガッラーナよ、『世界は常住である』というこの見解は正しいのでしょうか。『世界は無辺である』……『魂と身体は同一である』……『魂と身体は別異である』……『如来は死後もなお存在する』……」「ヴァッチャよ、これらは世尊によって説かれたことではない。」「如来は死後には存在しない……
