Now at that time the Jain ascetic of the Ñātika clan had arrived at Macchikāsaṇḍa together with a large assembly of Jain ascetics. Citta the householder heard that they had arrived. Together with several lay followers, he went up to the Jain Ñātika and exchanged greetings with him. When the greetings and polite conversation were over, he sat down to one side. 時に、ニャーティカ族のジャイナ教苦行者が、多くのジャイナ教苦行者の集いとともに、マッチカーサンダに到着していた。居士チッタはその到着を聞き知り、数人の在家信者とともに、ジャイナ教のニャーティカのもとへ赴き、互いに挨拶を交わした。挨拶と礼儀にかなった言葉が終わると、彼は一方の側に座した。するとジャイナ教のニャーティカが彼に告げた。「居士よ、沙門ゴータマは『専念も思惟もなき三昧の境地あり』と説くが、あなたはその言葉を信じておられるのか」と。
