比丘たちよ、小さき種より生じながら大いなる幹を持ち、他の樹木に寄り添いながら絡みついて育つ大樹がある。それらに絡みつかれた樹木は、やがて裂け、倒れ、地に落ちる。では、小さき種より生じながら大いなる幹を持つその大樹とは何か。アッサッタ（聖天樹）、ニグローダ（榕樹）、ウドゥンバラ（優曇婆羅）、ピルッカ（無花果）、カピッタ、およびポラシャである。これらこそ、小さき種より生じながら大いなる幹を持ち、他の樹木に寄り添いながら絡みついて育つ大樹である。それらに絡みつかれた樹木は、やがて裂け、倒れ、地に落ちる。それと同じように、
