At one time the Buddha was staying near Sāketa in the deer park at the Añjana Wood. Then the wanderer Kuṇḍaliya went up to the Buddha, and exchanged greetings with him. When the greetings and polite conversation were over, he sat down to one side and said to the Buddha: “Worthy Gotama, I like to hang around the monasteries and visit the assemblies. When I’ve finished breakfast, it’s my habit to wander from monastery to monastery, from park to park. There I see some ascetics and brahmins speaking
時に、世尊はサーケータの近く、アンジャナ林の鹿野苑に滞在しておられた。そこへ遍歴行者クンダリヤが世尊のもとへ近づき、互いに挨拶を交わした。懇ろな挨拶と礼儀にかなった言葉を交わし終えると、彼は傍らに座して、世尊にこう申し上げた。「尊き瞿曇よ、私は諸々の僧院を訪ね歩き、集会に加わることを好んでおります。朝食を済ませた後は、僧院から僧院へ、園林から園林へと遊行するのが常でございます。そのような折に、ある沙門・婆羅門たちが語るのを見受けます——
