Evaṁ me sutaṁ— “Evaṁ, bhaddantavā”ti kho devā tāvatiṁsā sakkassa devānamindassa paccassosuṁ. ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā magadhesu viharati, pācīnato rājagahassa ambasaṇḍā nāma brāhmaṇagāmo, tassuttarato vediyake pabbate indasālaguhāyaṁ. Tena kho pana samayena sakkassa devānamindassa ussukkaṁ udapādi bhagavantaṁ dassanāya. Atha kho sakkassa devānamindassa etadahosi: “kahaṁ nu kho bhagavā etarahi viharati arahaṁ sammāsambuddho”ti? Addasā kho sakko devānamindo bhagavantaṁ magadhesu viharantaṁ pācīnato rā
So I have heard. “Yes, lord,” replied the gods. At one time the Buddha was staying in the land of the Magadhans, where east of Rājagaha there is a brahmin village named Ambasaṇḍā, north of which, on Mount Vediyaka, is Indra’s hill cave. Now at that time Sakka, the lord of gods, grew eager to see the Buddha.
