Evaṁ me sutaṁ— ekaṁ samayaṁ āyasmā udeno bārāṇasiyaṁ viharati khemiyambavane. “Katamo ca, brāhmaṇa, puggalo attantapo attaparitāpanānuyogamanuyutto? ubbhaṭṭhakopi hoti āsanapaṭikkhitto, ukkuṭikopi hoti ukkuṭikappadhānamanuyutto, kaṇṭakāpassayikopi hoti kaṇṭakāpassaye seyyaṁ kappeti; sāyatatiyakampi udakorohanānuyogamanuyutto viharati— iti evarūpaṁ anekavihitaṁ kāyassa ātāpanaparitāpanānuyogamanuyutto viharati.
