So I have heard. At one time the Buddha was staying near Ukkaṭṭhā, in the Subhaga Forest at the root of a magnificent sal tree. かくのごとく、われは聞けり。あるとき、世尊はウッカッターの近く、スバガの森にある、見事なサーラ樹の根元に滞在しておられた。そこで世尊は比丘たちに呼びかけられた。「比丘たちよ。」「世尊よ」と彼らは答えた。世尊はこのように説かれた。
彼らは梵天を梵天として知覚する。梵天を梵天として知覚し終えて、彼らは梵天を梵天なりと思量する……それはいかなる故か。彼らはそれを完全には了知していないからである、とわれは説く。彼らは水を直接に知る……火を……風を……生き物たちを……諸天を……そして不還者を……
