“Mendicants, when there are hands, picking up and putting down are found. When there are feet, coming and going are found. When there are joints, contracting and extending are found. When there’s a belly, hunger and thirst are found. In the same way, when there’s an eye, pleasure and pain arise internally conditioned by eye contact. 比丘たちよ、手があるとき、取ることと置くことが見出される。足があるとき、来ることと去ることが見出される。関節があるとき、屈することと伸ばすことが見出される。腹があるとき、飢えと渇きが見出される。それと同じように、眼があるとき、眼触を縁として内に楽と苦が生ずる。耳があるとき……鼻があるとき……舌があるとき……身があるとき……意があるとき、意触を縁として内に楽と苦が生ずる。手がないとき、取ることと置くことは見出されない。
