At one time the venerables Ānanda and Kāmabhū were staying near Kosambī, in Ghosita’s Monastery. Then in the late afternoon, Venerable Kāmabhū came out of retreat, went to Venerable Ānanda, and exchanged greetings with him. あるとき、尊者アーナンダと尊者カーマブーは、コーサンビーのほとりにあるゴーシタの精舎に滞在されていた。そして夕暮れ時、尊者カーマブーは禅定より出でて、尊者アーナンダのもとへと赴き、相互に挨拶を交わされた。挨拶と礼儀にかなった言葉を交わし終えると、カーマブーは傍らに座して、アーナンダにこう申し上げた。「アーナンダ尊者よ、いかなるものでございましょうか。眼は色の結縛（けばく）であるのか、それとも色が眼の結縛であるのか。耳は……鼻は……舌は……身は……意は法の結縛であるのか、それとも法が意の結縛であるのか。
