Then Venerable Migajāla went up to the Buddha … and said to him: “Sir, may the Buddha please teach me Dhamma in brief. When I’ve heard it, I’ll live alone, withdrawn, diligent, keen, and resolute.” “Migajāla, there are sights known by the eye, which are likable, desirable, agreeable, pleasant, sensual, and arousing. If a mendicant approves, welcomes, and keep clinging to them, this gives rise to relishing. Relishing is the origin of suffering, I say. There are sounds … smells … tastes … touches
尊者ミガジャーラは世尊のもとに参じ……こう申し上げた。「世尊よ、願わくば世尊は私に簡略にダンマをお説きください。それを聴聞した後、私は独り離れた所に住み、精進し、熱心に、決意を持って修行に励みましょう。」
「ミガジャーラよ、眼によって認識される諸々の色形があり、それらは愛すべく、望ましく、快く、心地よく、欲情を伴い、心を引き付けるものである。もし比丘がそれらを是認し、歓迎し、執着し続けるならば、そこから喜悦が生ずる。喜悦は苦の集起なりと、我は説く。耳によって認識される諸々の声があり……鼻によって認識される諸々の香があり……舌によって認識される諸々の味があり……身によって認識される諸々の触があり……
