At Sāvatthī. Then Venerable Migajāla went up to the Buddha … and said to him: “Sir, they speak of one who lives alone. How is one who lives alone defined? And how is living with a partner defined?” “Migajāla, there are sights known by the eye, which are likable, desirable, agreeable, pleasant, sensual, and arousing. this gives rise to relishing. 舎衛城にての事なり。時に尊者ミガジャーラは仏陀のもとに参り……こう申し上げた。「世尊よ、独住する者と申しますが、独住とはいかに定義されるものでございましょうか。また、伴侶とともに住するとはいかに定義されるものでございましょうか」と。「ミガジャーラよ、眼によって識られる諸々の色があり、それらは好ましく、望ましく、意に適い、快く、欲情を伴い、心を惑わすものである。かかる色に対して歓喜が生ずる。歓喜あるところに貪欲あり。貪欲あるところに繋縛あり。歓喜の縛によって束縛された比丘は、伴侶とともに住する者と称せられる。
