At Sāvatthī. “Mendicants, this transmigration has no known beginning. No first point is found of sentient beings roaming and transmigrating, shrouded by ignorance and fettered by craving. There comes a time when the ocean dries up and evaporates and is no more. But in any case, there is no making an end of suffering for sentient beings roaming and transmigrating, shrouded by ignorance and fettered by craving, I say. There comes a time when Sineru the king of mountains is burned up and destroyed,
舎衛城にて。「比丘たちよ、この輪廻に始まりを知ることはできない。無明に覆われ、渇愛に繋縛されながら流転輪廻する衆生の、最初の起点を見出すことはできないのである。大海が干上がり蒸発してついに消え失せる時が来るであろう。しかしいかなる場合においても、無明に覆われ、渇愛に繋縛されながら流転輪廻する衆生にとって、苦の終滅を見出すことはできない、と私は説く。山の王スメール山が焼き尽くされ滅び去る時が来るであろう。
